Bandung March 16th 2019. A well known author and a farmer, Brenda Schoepp, ever stated that people might need a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman, and a preacher once in a lifetime but every day, even three times in a day, people would certainly need a farmer’s contribution. It brings back to our mind that farmer is indispensable and they have a very important role to our life. We have highlighted a data from BPS in 2013 which showed that the average of Indonesian farmers are 52 years old and the farmers aged above 45 is 60% of total farmers. The problem is, what is happened with the young generation?

Our team believed that the world will be a better place to live if we begin to invest and to equip the youth with skills and knowledges about respecting the earth because the climate change that might threaten their future is not a fiction. Youth is believed to be receptived to change and they have a big role in creating what lies ahead.

My Grandfather used to say that once in your life you need a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman, and a preacher, but every day, three times in a day, you need a farmer.

The first GENTRA in 2019 that was held in SMPN 26 Bandung was aimed to strengthen what we had done before and still involving youth to take action. We invited Djaka Padma, one of inspirational young leader who have actively participated in developing Indonesia’s agricultural sector with his team in Inagri Asia, to enlighten the student participants about farming and agriculture. He equipped Tsaqila, Jasmine, and all the kids involved with the skills to make a plant nursery in soil and rice husk ash media and in a rockwool media. It might be a bit dirty but life is too short to be so flawless, isn’t it? This seed nursery activity will be continously monitored by our team in the following months. The seedlings will be moved into hydroponic system that was already installed by Agrituner team in the school.

Agrituner Initiative will always strive to solve the climate change that haunts earth and all the living creatures in it. However, when we talk about climate change, we talk about a very big dimension and a massive scale of a problem. A comprehensive, consistent, and collaborative effort is needed to heal our world. All in all, Agrituner invites You to start doing somethingeven the smallest thing to prevent climate change. Believe that what you are doing will be worth a try. [Sarah Meilani/AIMedCo]
